<image:title>Programs for Youth and Families - Outdoor Philosophy and Orienteering</image:title>
<image:caption>Everywhere Philosophy hosted two week-long orienteering summer camps through the Boys & Girls Club of Brattleboro and the Recreation and Parks Department. One way to view the activity of philosophizing is as a process of orienting ourselves to the world and each other, by way of evaluating our most basic assumptions and biases. We found orienteering to provide a surprising pathway to philosophical exploration over topics as diverse as leadership, reality, and the relationship between the mind and the world. Campers learned, literally, how to navigate around the natural environment, while at once team-building with peers and reinforcing their understanding of their leadership potential. Land navigation exercises were supported with philosophy games, thought experiments and discussions that kept campers simultaneously navigating through the wilderness of concepts, assumptions and beliefs that guide our thinking and behavior every day.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Philosophy is everywhere - including in beloved fairy tales and children’s stories for the young and young at heart. In another collaboration with Brattleboro Recreation and Parks, families with children of a variety of ages joined Everywhere Philosophy for live readings, virtual and in-person, that wove storytelling, philosophy and hands-on activities together into an immersive philosophical experience.</image:caption>

<image:title>What is Philosophy? - It’s a question with a range of answers…</image:title>
<image:caption>Professional philosophers investigate the natural world, the logical structure of language, the nature of mathematical objects, personal identity, morality, the mind, and much more. A common thread running through the limitless scope of philosophical inquiry is a commitment to uncovering and analyzing the foundational concepts, assumptions, and questions that define particular areas of inquiry. Another hallmark of philosophy is the intentional coupling of exacting methodology with an imaginative openness to logical possibility. We view philosophy as a social activity embodied in a variety of imaginative language games. The games involve us in sharing and evaluating claims, reasons, hypotheses and thought experiments, with the goal of identifying and evaluating the assumptions and biases that inform our decision-making and experience. Ultimately, the games serve a simple purpose: To self-consciously examine reality and our shared experience of it. This game-oriented view of philosophy guides all of our program development, across the diversity of topics and issues that you seek to address!</image:caption>

<image:title>Who We Are - Michael Ferreira, PhD</image:title>
<image:caption>Photo Credit: Ezra Distler Michael Ferreira, Ph.D. Mike completed his doctorate at The Ohio State University in 2014. His academic interests converge around imagination, pretend play, and learning, with related threads in aesthetics, the philosophy of literature and cognitive science. Mike envisions philosophy as a game of anchored, disciplined inquiry, with a heavy reliance on language, imagination, creativity and pro-social interaction. He relishes the opportunity to introduce philosophy to anyone that has not been formally introduced to the discipline. When he’s not doing philosophy, you may find Mike writing articles for local publications, running miles around town, doing karaoke on the internet, or playing games with his blended family.</image:caption>

Bethany is a published author of several essays, short stories, and poetry that appear in New York Times bestselling anthologies. She worked as a staff writer for several online publications including Nickelodeon, and The Huffington Post. Bethany recently returned to school to pursue her first love, the rule of law.
